Liturgy that Matters – January 10, 2021 – Mark 1:4-11

Themes: Jesus’ baptism is interpreted within the long lineage of prophets of his tradition: The ones who tell disruptive truths. The ones whose focus is upon the liberation of the oppressed. The ones who take risks and practice radical solidarity as we see in the life of Jesus. Is this the lineage into which the church baptizes today? Or, as sermon commentary writer Casey Overton asks, has this rite been “watered down?”
