Liturgy that Matters – September 13, 2020 – Genesis 50:15-21

Themes: In the midst of mourning their father’s death, Joseph’s brothers are triggered with fear. Will Joseph now take revenge on them? They use their dead father’s words to manipulate Joseph into ensuring his forgiveness. They will not be the last to use the words of the dead against people who have been harmed and oppressed. We look for examples of this in the world and church today and explore other questions related to the ways we self-protect in manipulative ways. The art of true reconciliation after harm has been done is an urgent matter before us today.
