Liturgy that Matters – April 19, 2020 – John 20:19-31

Themes:Jesus returns to the disciples, tucked away together in fear and grief. Jesus comes to them bearing wounds of the past, inviting the community to bear witness to his experience. This will shape their labors for the future. Jesus comes as a person enfleshed, but also immaterial enough to pass through locked doors. Resurrection is still in process. It is a gift of God but requires nurturing and tending in order to grow. So too does the resurrection that surrounds us. God extends possibilities and means of sustainability, but we have a role to play too. We need each other to show up in this work of rebuilding the world from whatever ruins we might find ourselves in.
