Liturgy that Matters – August 30, 2020 – Matthew 16:21-28
Themes: We lose our lives to save them. What does that mean in our world today? For everyone laboring for liberation, for the church, for people in locations of power? We explore the ways that love is costly but also freeing and fulfilling. We also listen through Peter. In what ways are we inclined to call those who tell the truth about the high stakes of this time “alarmists” in order to deny our own vulnerability and that of others? There are so many ways to resonate with his fear – for himself, for Jesus, for all who live under oppressive forces. We hear Jesus calling him – and us – to courage in community, honesty, and solidarity through the hard, hard things.
