Liturgy that Matters – August 9, 2020 – Matthew 14:22-33
Themes: The chaos of the “sea” tosses and turns the disciples through the night. Shaken and vulnerable, Jesus meets them in the morning with a gentle invitation to take heart. Peter then does a miraculous thing. He believes – maybe even starts to really understand – the things Jesus has been teaching them. The things that are meant to ensure the disciples and all of us that the same Sacred enfleshment that enables Jesus to walk on water lives in us too. That we have the spiritual capacities to face our fears, to find grounding in the midst of chaos and oppression, and to move more deeply into the trouble together.
