Liturgy that Matters – Isaiah 11:1-10 – December 8, 2019

Themes: The texts this week remind us of the cycles of life and how God ushers us through them. The Israelites were on the brink of judgment and destruction. John the Baptist, centuries later, prepares the people again for struggle. And so too do we find ourselves in a time of significant transition. But throughout the eras, the scriptures remind us that destruction is never the whole story. We are encouraged in numerous ways to hang tight onto the promises and possibilities of something new. God never abandons life but instead raises up the willing to build together a land and community where “righteousness flourish and peace abound, until the moon is no more.”
