Liturgy that Matters – January 12, 2020 – Matthew 3:13-17
Themes: Jesus comes to be baptized and John the Baptist can’t fathom that Jesus wants him to play the role he does. “Let it be,” Jesus says. And so too are we called into the mysterious ways of Love that defy orders, defy understanding, and defy even the most righteous of our attempts at hierarchies of worthiness. This invites us also to reflect on water as a Sacred source of life and how Jesus’ baptism makes holy the waters we still depend on today. All life is connected, all life is beloved. Our shared work is to make it so in system, in policy, in practice.
