Liturgy that Matters – March 15, 2020 – John 4:5-42
Themes: On the third week of Lent, we journey with the Samaritan woman who meets Jesus at the well. Over the centuries, she has endured all manner of prejudice and presumption by her interpreters. We listen to Musa Dube’s critique of Jesus as colonized colonizer. We sit with Sung Uk Lim’s reading of mimicry into the text. We ask what’s possible when we let Jesus and the Samaritan woman arrive at the well in mutual vulnerability, equally in need of each other. These and other interpretations that challenge traditional sexist takes.
