Liturgy that Matters – June 13, 2021 – Mark 4:26-34
Themes: Knowing full well that representatives of imperial power are always nearby, listening in, paying attention to those organizing for freedom, Jesus is careful with his words. He speaks in code, but not the elitist jargon type. His stories are told in ways that speak to lived experiences – ones that the powerful are unlikely to have had and thus understand. Like those who plan direct action and civil disobedience know today, undercover cops – literal and metaphorical – may be around. This, along with exploration of mustard seeds, public dialogue, and proclamations of a kindom growing and blooming.
This week’s sermon commentaries are written by Casey Overton.
