Liturgy that Matters – May 9, 2021 – John 15:9-17
Themes: Jesus invites the disciples to recognize themselves as offspring of the Divine Parent. Not so different than Jesus, they are a part of a holy lineage of love that bears lasting fruit, a lineage of wisdom that flows from living righteously, and of realms free of empire and destruction. This text calls us today, in faithfulness to this “parentage,” to divest from hierarchies significant and subtle and to ready ourselves to lay down our lives for our friends.
This week’s sermon commentaries are written by Casey Overton.
