Liturgy that Matters – November 15, 2020 – Matthew 25:14-30

Themes: Whether the original text intended for us to understand God as the harsh, unethical, exploiting businessman in this parable or if that is only the product of dominant interpretations, we know that these images of divine dominance betray the calling of the gospel for these days. In contrast, we listen for the Sacred truth in the one who courageously names the evil of those in power. The one that risks for the sake of what is right. The one that calls us to solidarity with each other, breaking out from the patterns expected of us. The one that finds hope in the “outer darkness” where the righteous wail and gnash teeth together against systems of injustice and exploitation.
