Liturgy that Matters – October 20, 2019 – Genesis 32:22-31
Themes: Tomorrow, he’ll be reunited with his brother, the one from whom he stole his father’s blessing. Tonight, he wrestles. With God but also perhaps himself, his past, his future, the fullness of his life now feeling so precarious. For all of us who find ourselves awake in the solitude of the night, stressing or regretting, tomorrow’s unknowns pressing upon us, we are met, too, by Divine Wisdom. Pushing and pulling on our body, our spirit, our lives, wrestling with God grounds us. Frees us. Helps us face with integrity that which we cannot avoid, try as we might.
